The Ladies Room
Lace Curtain Irish
I got the inspiration for this painting from an old advertisement for Irish lace which I found in an antique store. It spoke to my memories growing up and my mother reminding me I was "Lace Curtain Irish".
The Emigrant's Calling
The smallest harvest of recent
memory was stolen by the
overlords.
We were so famished we slaughtered
the sheep we raised for wool
so that our family would not starve.
Our lone comfort
in the wake of famine,
was the wind that blew towards us,
across the western sea,
sweet like an infant's sleeping sigh
after a prolonged spell of crying.
